Diverticulitis, healing time, ascites in pelvis

I had a colonoscopy for preventative measures about 5 weeks ago.  Since then, I have been sick for a month and about 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed via a CAT scan with diverticulitis.  I was given augumentin to take as antibiotic by my internist.  A day and a half later I was having diahrrea non stop with blood in my stool.  Mostly blood and slime.  I called the doctor on call who is not my physician and he sent me to ER.  There they did blood test and a CAT scan with a clear liquid contrast which I drank and they inserted rectally.  The rectal solution came out all bloody.  My WBC was over 20,000 after 2 days on the Augumentin.  I stopped the augumentin as per ER doctor instructions.  The ER doctors sent me home with Flagyl and ciprofloxacin for 10 days.  Today is the 8th day and although the blood has stopped I've had 5 bowel movements today and have felt generally bad.  I guess I have a couple of questions.  How long does it take one to get over diverticulitis and feel normal?  I've been weepy for almost a month.   Also, my CT scan showed minimal pelvis ascites, no absesses or peritonitis.  I'm worried about what I read about ascites.  I've read they signal cancer of the ovaries or liver problems.  Could these ascites be from having such a raging infection with the diverticulitis?  My rectum also hurts but the ER PAC said I had 9 inches of very infected sigmoid colon and down into the rectum.  When should I expect this to quit hurting?  I'm just worried they've missed something.  Also, my internist said they should never have given me contrast with diverticulitis due to possible rupturing and bleeding out.  I feel weak and frustrated.  I don't have excruciating pain just a general achiness and I feel down.  Please let me know if i am proceeding correctly.  I'm kind of scared.  I don't even know how to begin a normal diet after a couple of weeks of soft/liquid diet.
