Diverticulitis Recurrance

My wife had a bout of diverticulitis and a perforated sigmoid colon.  It healed nicely.  What are the chances of recurrance?

Hold the resection and try probiotics including sacharomyces and a natural antiinflamatory call curcumin, they have worked for me. I had 5 bouts of diverticulitis, 3 diagnosed with scans and 2 clinically. My doctors wanted me to have a colectomy and I refused, thanks god for natural products.

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis over the years both by a colonoscopy and 2 CT Scans with contrast this year. I keep having bouts of diverticulitis with just simple food. I am going to have another colonoscopy next month. What medicines are good for this along with IBS. It seems that with one I have the other . Pain on lower left and sometimes on lower right. Now it is all over??? No fever thank goodness. Is surgery necessary and full proof for the future???

I'm not sure anyone can give you the 'odds' on whether or not it will happen again. However, many people find that once diverticulosis goes to diverticulitis, the problem does reoccur. After a few bouts with the problem, many doctors suggest resection. However, since your wife has already perforated, the suggestion may be made sooner.
