Diverticulosis/Diverticulitis

Diverticulosis/Diverticulitis

My Mum was diagnosed with diverticulosis and diverticulitis when she was in her early 30's (think she was 33) and they were able to treat it for her no problem, although it recurred years later and at times she still suffers from colicky pains that she believes is the diverticulosis/diverticulitis.

My question is, that I know it's more common for people over the age of 40 to get diverticulosis and diverticulitis, however, I'm 27 and have had a number of tests and nothing has shown what could be causing my lower left quadrant pain.

I'm having a colonoscopy tomorrow and as far as I'm aware that should show whether I may have it or not, but my question is what are my chances of having diverticulosis/diverticulitis at my age (27)?  (Especially since my Mum had it at a young age).

Well, you have chances to have diverticulitis, it happens in young people also. Diverticula occur because of week connective tissue in the colon wall, and this may "run in families". It may be compared with discus hernia (spine), which also run in families.
