Do I have SOD????????/

I have been in hospital for 9 weeks with pain in my upper right quadrant, sometimes it feels as though it radiates round my back and right shoulder.
I have had a number of tests inc ercp, ultrasound. It showed common bile duct was slighty enlarged and some sludge in the gall bladder but no stones whatsoever, the latest a mrcp acc to radiologist showed it all looked ok however the pain is still there despite low fat diets etc.
what can i do?? is it likely it is SOD?? is so how can it be treated??

Hi,
I feel for you i really do..its so hard isn't it. I had my gall bladder removed 3 weeks ago however the symptoms are still present..and the pain is still there not all the time mind you..is this similar to you??? I'm often sick or feeling sick and the pain remains in the upper right quadrant and also the right shoulder...just don't know what to do any more??!!!!!!!I believe that the stent helps to alivate the pain and most people are symptom free i really hope this is the case for you.
when is the op??

I was just diagnosed with SOD a week or so ago.  I have been scheduled to have a procedure and a stint placed in the oddi I believe.  This diagnosis was made after a year and a half of suffering through horrible attacks of pain, nausea and uncontrollable vomiting.   My gallbladder was removed last spring, an exploratory surgery done in October 2007 and another one in March 2008.  I am in constant pain, and have had to take pain medications just to get through the days at work.  I am looking forward to this procedure, but also nervous about the possible side effects of pancreatitis, perforations or bleeding.  I am also curious as to what percentage rate of people who have this procedure end up having to have them done again?  Can this be cured with the ERCP and placement of this stint?  Or is this a chronic pain I will need to learn to live with for the rest of my life?  Thank you for your time!

The only way to diagnose SOD is via ERCP with a manometry reading. If the manometry reading showed elevated pressure in the duct, then the diagnosis (including other confirmatory symptoms) is SOD.
