Does an abnormally low liver enzyme result mean anything?

by sparrow, May 26, 2001 12:00AM
My daughter-in-law is having a multitude of problems that started at puberty, age 12.  Within one month of menstruation, she began showing purple striae (no weight gain yet), spastic loose bowels all the time. Over the last seven months, especially last 2 years, she has gained 60 pounds, has not had a solid bowel movement since age 12, purple striae allover abdomen, now running down arms almost to wrist. She was tested for Cushings but cortisol came back normal.  Two tests came back abnormal, her growth hormone levels were deficient, and her GPT/ALT came back low.  I understand this is low liver enzyme. Doctor did not mention this liver enzyme result, but is testing her for further growth hormone problems.  Do we need to be concerned about the low level liver enzyme? Hers was 9 based on normal 11-66? Thank you...
