Draining of fluid

by Solli, Dec 09, 2001 12:00AM
My father has advanced Alchaholic Cirrhosis of the liver.
He stopped drinking 4 months ago.
He has gained approx 25kg of fluid, he has lost his appitite and looks very malnurished.
The only thing he seems to be able to eat is fruit, he consumes approx: 8-10 Lemons per day, is this harmmful.
His medication for the fluid has stopped working and he is now having trouble breathing, is this due to the pressure on the lungs?
His skin and eyes are yellow, however on his good days the colour seems to return to normal.
His voice has changed and he has little energy.
His mental state has however improved since he stopped drinking however he can not do simple sums and is very confused at times.
Approx: 18 months ago before his health worsend the fluid was sucessfuly drained from his abdomen.
Now the doctors seem to be reluctant to do this, Why???
My father is now desprate to feel more confortable, is there anything that can be done?
Also what should we expect from here, i know it is hard to put a time on these things however if there is anything that someone could tell me. I live 700kilometers away from my family and i also have family overseas, and it would tear me apart to think that his daughters could not make it to see him before he dies.
