Drugs Not Enough

by SallyA, Jul 08, 2001 12:00AM
Am taking Pantoprazole (40 mg per day)(ulcepraz) - still getting moderate to severe symptoms (heartburn and nausea) (original diagnois 6 mo ago was gastric and duodenal ulcers and congenital hiatal hernia) - even with lifestyle and diet attention - still popping antacids with varying degrees of relief obtained.  Does anyone have similar problem.   Dr. seems to think I am imagining things (he reduced drug from 80 mgpd to 40 mg/day - even though I still have symptoms at last visit) - he said I need to lose weight to "cure" my symptoms.  I have lost about 15 lb so far (currently 185 lb at 5'5") - but symptoms remain.  Is it possible to "imagine" these symptoms. The drug is supposed to be powerful enough to supress acid - right?  So I shouldn't have symptoms.... it doesn't make sense.  Want to give up and forget Dr. and drugs.  Any recommendations or I just need to put up with this?  Thanks to anyone who bothers to read this.

I had same problems, was on Protonix for 2 months.  Took myself off, didn't like side effects, diarhea (diarrhea).  I carefully watched my diet, no fats, not much milk,no alcohol or sodas, no fried foods (very important) and lost 15 pounds.  I am now 130 pounds and 5'2", 53, female.  I feel great although occasionally I have stomach burning.  This seems to occur after I indulge in a few french fries or other no no's.  Good luck and try the diet, it does work !
