ERCP Again

by UK892, Oct 07, 2009 03:55PM
I had ERCP done in March of this year, after an initial bout of acute pancreatitis I was well for about three month after which the pain started to return.  My Doctors are now looking to do another ERCP with stent replacement (I still have my gall bladder), has this happened to anyone else, did the second op resolve the problem?  I hate the idea of having this done again when it mught be better to have my gall bladder removed, afterall too many op's has to be risky.

if your last ERCP was march and they are now looking at stent replacement you initally had a stent put in (stents depending on their type tipically lasr 3 - 6 months) therefore your stent is due for replacemnt.. i had 3 lots of ERCP and the 2nd lot had a stent inserted i had to have the 3rd to replace the stent  3 months later as i had not reached the top of the NHS waithing list for gallbladder surgery and the stent needed repalcing!

all the best.

To: sillyvixen,
Got my HIDA scan results today and they show the gall bladder is norma.  My Doctor is now looking at doing the ERCP again, but i'm not sure its worth it, the relef was so short lived last time.  I did have a stent last time but it was only in for 3 weeks before being removed, as it caused acute pancreatitis last time something i never want to have to go through again.  I really am at a loss as to what to do, I am so uncomfortable and feel miserable all the time, my husband is getting really fed up.

Make sure you're checked for the possibility of autoimmune pancreatitis.
