Elevated ALT?

hey im a 24 year old female who had a physical yesterday and blood work drawn.  All of my blood work was normal except for an elevated ALT level of 61.  I have no history of health problems other than kidney stones which i had during my first pregnancy 2 years ago.  I just recently had a baby 11 weeks ago and just stopped breastfeeding.  Also my husband was killed in a car accident 5 weeks ago so I'm obviously incredibly stressed out.

I went out this past friday night and got really really drunk (throw up and pass out drunk).  before that i had been having a glass or two of wine a night one or two nights a week.  took tylenol a few times in the past few weeks for headaches and i KNOW ive been dehydrated from crying and just generally not drinking enough water.

My question is if getting so drunk on friday night could be what elevated my ALT.  please excuse my poor spelling/grammer im tryiing to type this with a toddler crawling all over me.  thanks.

Buddy, both medications and alcohol can skew liver enzyme levels. Yours isn't that high, but you may want to abstain from alcohol and treat yourself right for awhile and get retested.

ALT levels often vary between normal and slightly increased, so doctors typically will order the test frequently to see if there is a pattern. In some liver diseases, especially when the bile ducts are blocked, when a person has cirrhosis, and when other types of liver problems are present, ALT may be close to normal levels. But ALT is only one parameter. It needs to be compared against all the other enzyme levels.

Hi, I'm a nutritionist, not a doctor.  Only a doctor can answer that question for you.  Ask him (or her).  Don't be afraid.  He's gotten drunk before too.  I'm so very sorry to hear about your husband.  I have been researching the subject of life after death for the past 10 years now and I'm about to put all of my findings in a book.  If you have any questions, let me know.  My heart goes out to you so much.  Ya know, God's greatest thing...the thing He does best, is taking terrible, tragic situations (such a yours) and bringing good out of them.  Look at Jesus, for example.  I  He was beaten beyond recognition for 18 hours and hung on a cross to die.  But God used brought something great out of it.  Eternal life for all who believed in His Son.  I wish you all the best.
