A variety of liver diseases can be associated with an elevation of direct bilirubin. This can include biliary obstruction, hepatitis, steatohepatitis, medications, or viruses - all to name a few.
You can consider further testing with a liver ultrasound to rule out most of these diseases. If there is evidence of disease in the bile ducts, you can consider an MRCP to further evaluate this.
These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
