Female sexual dysfunction who has had elevated liver enzymes for probably the last 15 years. I have seen 2 Gastroentorologists one when I was a teenager who ran all "
normalNormal saline flush" tests (hep A,B,C, ultrasound of the liver and other tests whose names I cannot recall) everything was fine. He suggested I lose weight and retest. Needless to say 15 years later I didn't lose the weight and retested with the same problems, again had all the tests done including the ultrasound and everything is
normalNormal saline flush. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am now on
synthroid. Could this be the cause of my elevation? With no other tests coming back abnormal what is my next step? If there was damage to my liver would it show in an ultrasound?

Dear Robyn,
It is difficult to comment regarding the cause of your elevated liver tests without knowing which tests were elvated and what was done recently to investigate your problem. In general terms, deposition of fat (steatosis) in liver cells is a very frequent cause of elevated liver tests in individuals without symptoms of liver disease and without risk
factorsFactor ix complex or obvious cause.
HepaticAmebic liver abscess
Hepatic hemangioma
Hepatic ischemia
Hepatic vein obstruction (budd-chiari)
Liver transplant
Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram
Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (tips) staetosis can be associated with obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism. It is necessary to know which tests are abnormal before commenting on the ultrasound results.
The normalultrasound is reassuring but unfortunately does not help indetermining the cause of your liver problem.
