Elevated Liver Enzymes

by Rosie08, Dec 27, 2007 08:15PM
I'm very concerned because I have blood work done every six months and my liver enzymes continue to rise. I already had a liver biopsy done which showed a fatty liver. I've struggled with my weight all my life and contuinue to be 30lbs. over weight. I'm 45 yrs old and already I've battled uterine cancer with surgery and radiation treatment, I have CMT, I have diverticulosis, I've had gallbladder surgery and my pressure readings on my eyes are high. After I had the radiation treatment 9yrs. ago it seams like everything started to happen. All I forgot I also have psorisis to. I'm defiantly not a heavy drinker. With my health issues, do you think any of these could be causing my liver enzymes to continue to rise? PLEASE HELP!!

Rosie, can you give us an idea of the levels of your liver enzymes and which ones? Sometimes the enzymes and their ratios etc. can give you an idea of what might be happening. Did they also check the pancreatic enzyme level? And are you having any pain at all? Are you on meds of any kind? Some meds can also effect what liver enzymes levels can be.

Hi, many thanks for your quick response...I just had my blood work done 12/27 and here are the results: ALBUMIN 4.5, AST 69, ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE 64, ALT 119, BILIRUBIN TOTAL 0.5, BILIRUBIN DIRECT 0.1 AND PROTEIN 7.5. I'm not sure if they ever checked the pancreatic enzyme level but I will check on that. I don't have pain all the time just when my diverticulosis is acting up. Which is quite often lately for some reason. Could the fact that I have diverticulosis be affecting my liver? Sometimes I wish they just do the surgery and be done with it. As far as my medicine I currently take 35MG of fosamax once per week, Doxepin 50mg at bedtime for the CMT, multi vitamin once at bedtime and travatan eye drops once per day. I actually stopped taking my fosamax for six months to see if that was the problem but it wasn't. I use psorisis cream also. Many thanks for all your time and help. I've been so worried lately.

Could you please tell how it would be listed on my lab work if I had pancreatic enzyme level
