Elevated enzymes after surgery

by pkos, Jun 17, 2009 12:20AM
My husband (64) has been diagnosed with rectal carcinoma (stage 1) and been operated (laparoscopic LAR) on May 21 2009. On May 30, he had his ileostomy reversal (again laparoscopic surgery). His liver enzyme tests were normal on the test, which was done on the day before the ileostomy reversal. We will have a follow-up exam with the oncologist on 25 June (Which is three months after the first surgery) . So we have to bring several blood tests, which he ordered. We did the tests , the tumour markers CA- 125 and CA-19-9 showed the same level as prior to the first surgery. But the liver enzymes are as follows: AST 42.2, ALT 56.8 , ALP 145, GGT 142 , LDH 289. Those were all normal 15 days ago. Is it possible that the laparoscopic surgery and the medications used could cause  this elevation?  Or is this a sign for a methastasis? Should we repeat the tests after 1 week, before we visit the oncologist? Your response would be very much appreciated.
