Elevated liver enzymes

by Gera0405, May 11, 2009 03:12PM
Hi!  I am a 30 year old female that is currently experiencing elevated liver enzymes.  Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and had been taking Remicade for that.  I couple of years ago, I told my regular doctor about me having diarrhea right after eating.  Sometimes I would be fine with certain foods and then the next time I eat, I would be in the bathroom 30 minutes later.  She told me that I had a slight case of IBS.  In October of 2008, I had my blood work done and liver enzymes were slightly elevated.  In February of 2009, I had my blood work done again and they were in the 100's.  Two weeks and a half weeks later, the enzymes were down to the 70's and 80's.  Then, in April of 2009, I had blood work done again, and this time my AST was 124 and ALT 160 with total bilirubin of 2.2.  Two and a half hours before the blood work, I had taken two Tylenol Extra Strength tablets.  My regular Dr. thinks it could be from that.  I am really freaking out over this and wonder what could be wrong with me.  Can anyone help?  I am so scared that something is really wrong with me and I don't want to have my blood work done again because I am afraind

That bilirubin seems really high. I'm surprised you're not having more symptoms, though (like jaundice or itchiness). Have you been checked for all the Hepatitis'? I suppose Tylenol could have an effect, but I wouldn't ever expect it to be that significant. There are some recent posts in the liver forum that explains all the AST and ALT levels and if one is higher than the other, what it means, etc.... Don't fret. You'll get this figured out.
