Various hematologic diseases can lead to an enlarged spleen. Infections, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, and other liver diseases are also possible.
Obtaining a blood count and peripheral blood smear can be done to exclude these possibilities.
Risks of a liver biopsy include bleeding and infection. The possible complications should be discussed with your personal physician prior to undergoing the procedure.
