Enzyme Intolerance and Chronic Pancreatitis

by boolie, Oct 19, 2008 01:05PM
My mother has been dealing with chrinic pancreatitis for about 9 months now.  She has tried 5 different enzyme concotions given by her MD and they have all made her violently ill.  I am wondering if anyone else has had or knowas someone who has had this problem.  when asked, the MD says she will not die from this but she is losing weight rather quickly.  Since she started being treated for CP she has lost about 15pounds.  She is so tiny and has not appetite.  To complicate things, she is a diabetic and has high cholesterol and thus takes 12-15 pills a day for both of those.  With the enzymes she was taking about 20.  Any suggested reading or assistance would be great.  Thank you.

I have the same problem. I can't take the enzymes at all. They actually make my condition worse. I find it easier just to stick with the chronic pancreatitis diet to help control it. Just my thoughts.

Yes i have a very serve reaction to enzymes. In fact I have been having surgery about every 3 months. I have been having a celiac block. It's for pain. They really work most of the time. My next option is that they are going to burn all the nerves that run into the pancreas so I won't feel pain at all.
