About three months ago my 12 year old son came home from a BBQ and was very ill. We assumed he has eaten too much and had him go to bed. The next morning he could barely sit up, as his chest was so tender to the touch. We thought he had broken
ad brought him to the ER. There they did a chest Xray and said he had pnumonia. The severe tenderness in his chest subsided, but was replaced by severe pain in his abdomen and at times radiates to his chest. He is in a pain of 7-10, 24 hours a day. He only sleeps about 4 hours a night due to pain. He can barely walk anymore with out aide, and cannot walk very far when he does. He has lost about 10% of his body weight, and does not eat much anymore. As soon as he eats his belly is in extreme pain, he gets flushed, and becomes sweaty. He is not vomiting, nor is constipated, nor diarreah (diarrhea). He had an endoscopy done, and cat scan, both came back normal. They ONLY thing abnormal is a rising Eosinophil Count that was at 5.5% when this began, and now is about 15%, also his Alkalin Phosphatase is low, 160. other than that his CBC
and we should get a phsych exam for him. My son is NOT faking this! He cannot walk, eat or sleep! Any ideas as to where to go now are very very appreciated.
's bad luck. Surely the Dr.s already checked him for Addison's disease, or adrenal insufficiency? If not, eosinophilia, sweating, weakness, abdominal pain are prominent features. (Not a Dr. here).
Rather than a slow insidious onset of the disease, he may have gotten food poisoning or some infection, and provoked a mild "adrenal crisis". But I think it shoulda showed up on preliminary metabolic panels - if not, test his cortisol levels.
