Epigastric Hernia

by janef, May 19, 2002 12:00AM
Does anyone have any information on epigastric hernia?  In Oct 2000 I had a hysterctomy at which time they found an epigastric hernia in the subxphoid region.  The called my husband in the waiting room and asked if I was having any symptoms and he said No.  Since the hernia was not in the original incision area, and no symptoms were present, it was not fixed.  Now I am having bouts of unexplained chest pain and wondering if this hernia could be causing it?  Anyone who has experiece with epigastric hernias, can you tell me what kind of symptoms would be present?

Thank you!

Hi Janef
I had an epigastrial hernia about 15 years ago.  I got it during peganncy.  (The baby weighed in at 11.2 lbs) I did not suffer any pain with the hernia at all.  I had torn all my stomach muscles and that repaired as well. Every case is different but I had no pain.  The surgery was very painful, and recovery was long.  You don't realize how often you use stomach muscles until you have that surgery.
