I had an EC-related esophagectomy in August, 2001. I have not had to have any dilations since surgery nor have I needed a stent. I am lucky.

There is an esophageal cancer site on the Internet that has just under 1700 members (EC survivers as well as caregivers). I recommend that you join it (it is called the EC Group). I am sure that if you post your question there you will get a number of responses from folks who have had a stent put in place, which will give you feedback from people who have first-hand experience.

Do a search through your internet search engine for:

Cathy's EC cafe

On that site you will see a link entitled "EC-Group". Click on it. It will show you how to subscribe. It is easy and it is free.
The EC Group is the largest internet-based EC support group there is, and its members have a wealth of information to share. They are also very caring, compassionate people. Fighting EC tends to make people more compassionate, I think.

I truly hope you give the EC Group a try. Let me know if you do and if you get good insight from posting there.

Best personal regards,
