Esphogheal dismotility - extreme pain

I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy in December 2008 and am now suffering from severe esphogheal dismotility (nutcracker esophagus). I am in extreme pain and am having pronlems keeping food down (nausea, vomiting, pain). I am taking some meds for this but they only work moderately. I am looking for others who suffer from the same condition and can offer suggestions, help, ideas, specialist who can help me?

THanks for your reply. I have gastroparesis too and take a compounded pill - domperidone - to help empty my stomach pouch faster but it doesn't help with the pain.
I take Diltia XT 120 Mg to help with the chest pains and imipramine to help relax the esophagus. They work OK but I get extreme attacks still - feels like a heart attack.
I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy because I needed to lose about 200 pounds (have lost 166) but I am suffering. If you know if anything else that would help or know of a doctor I can talk to, I would appreciate it. Having trouble keeping food and liquids down - very sick most of the time. Good luck with yours!

Hi - I know the misery of the esophageal spasms - not good.  I have Systemic Sclerosis, which caused Scleroderma Esophagus, then Barrett's Esophagus and Gastroparesis and motility dysfunction throughout the bowel.  I also have MS and pulmonary disease etc. etc.  Anti-cholinergic drugs are used sometimes, but a GI doc would have to make that call.  Why did you have the procedure?  And, could they do a dilatation?  That's the only thing that helped my spasms.  No pain med will help as the pain comes on so suddenly and needs to be stopped, rather than covered up.  I had a doctor try to give me narcotics for trigeminal neuralgia once.  I said - by the time I feel the pain, it's too late to take the drug and I have to hope that it would be over before or at least by the time, the drug started working!!  (Didn't find out till years later that it was an early sign of the MS)

Anyway, I don't know your situation, but I can at least relate to the severe pain.  I wish you the best and hope you find answers.
