cancer is now having trouble returning to eating regular foods due to over production of a burning thick mucus. It happens when he eats but also happens when he is doing nothing. He has had a feeding tube for the last 7 months and has relied mainly on feeding himself through the tube. His doctors are telling him that he needs to start eating normally and that he is cancer free. His problem is that he always has this thick excessive mucus build up all of the time. He constantly has to drink and spit in a cup. He is truly frustrated and doctors have no answers. HELP!
Cfp, it could be that his body is putting out the mucus as a 'protective' mechanism. That can happen in many areas of the body and is often seen in the colon.
You may want to see if there are some foods that his system is responding to negatively. Things he may have been able to easily eat previously may not agree with him now. You might also want to check to see if he's reacting adversely to dairy products. Dairy can be mucus-provoking even if you haven't had radiation
