Excessive belching

by MegHE, Jul 08, 2008 11:42PM
At least at first my excessive belching was caused by eating fatty/protein foods at the same time as carbohydrate rich foods.  That led me to believe that it was due to a "weak" pancreas that cannot keep up with producing all the digestive enzymes necessary.  So I stopped mixing the two kinds of foods:  that is, no potatoes with meat; no rice with sauces laced with fat; no toast with eggs.  The belching ceased.

Before that I had stopped drinking milk  when I discovered that milk and milk products caused belching (not yogurt or kefir or aged cheese, though).  I know that that problem is called "milk intolerace" and is linked to the digestive enzyme for milk.  I know that the gastroenterologist whom I had consulted for my excessive gas, told me to go home and eat lots of fiber.  He was wrong.  Lactase pills have solved that problem.

This week, however, I have begun to awaken, belching.  I belched all day today and cannot get to sleep tonight due to that.  I worry about why.

The medical doctors don't seem to know about this.  I am considering going to a naturopathic doctor.  However, if you have any ideas, I'm interested.

If lactase pills help you, then you're lactose intolerant. I think the best solution is to avoid dairy completely (maybe you can eat some yogurts..).

Also have a test for H. pylori which is common cause of gastritis and belching.
