Excessive gas

Excessive gas

I had emergency surgery when my colon burst. I was fitted with a colostemy bag for 3 months then had reversal surgery. I am scared of getting to that again. I have constant gas (both burping and fatulent). I have bowel movements almost every hour, sometimes diarreah (diarrhea). I can actually FEEL stuff moving around. SOmetimes I pass gas and bowel movements release. I have had another colonoscopy and lower GI tests. What should I do next? Am I on the path to destruction again?

No, you're not.  Right now it's a matter of increasing your fiber intake, you can also use Immodium Anti-Diarrhea medication to slow down and reduce the amount of BM's you have.  Play around with your diet, learn what foods cause you problems. Food is usually the culprit when someone has had a colectomy.  Keep yourself well hydrated with water, orange juice and Gatorade.  Living without your colon makes it very easy for you to become dehydrated, and the stomach flu will hit you harder. With all the diarrhea you are losing  electrolytes and the above will replenish those.  If you ever get the flu and are going from both ends, go to the ER for IV hydration.  It will only take a few hours. I hope this helps, and take care.
