About two months ago I started with sudden diarrhea and went to see an internal specialist who gave me an antibiotic for a possible bacterial infection. Since then the diarrhea is not how it was before, but my stool is still very loose and in smaller pieces. It is also sort of mucus-like. I also get excessive gas
that ends up odorless... like I'm full of just air. It is sometimes moving around so fiercely in my stomach that it is very loud and I can feel it almost in my back. I also have mucus during a lot of these passings. My diet and lifestyle have not changed, and I am relatively healthy. I stay away from most fried foods, and eat a good amount of fruits and vegetables. I don't know what to do!
The antibiotic you used killed the normal bacterial flora in your colon which has a role in breaking down some nitrogenous nutrients (like protein) and absorption of water. They also form colonic gas
which is easier to get rid off.
What the antibiotic didn't do is it didn't get rid of the offending bug which seems to have remained as a chronic gastroenteritis
in your small intestines which takes longer to clear out, and causing the excessive mucus secretions.
Unfortunately, chronic diarrhea requires going back to the doctor to determine the exact bug (by stool analysis, culture & sensitivity) and targeting it with the right medication.
U can try one thing however, use a probiotic agent (availabe at GNC or elsewhere, and contains healthy bacteria to help improve digestion) for a week and see how that goes.
