Extremely Concerned (Medications)

by Risinghigh, Jan 14, 2009 01:50PM
Do any of you find this strange for a doctor to do??  My internal medicine physician recently prescribed numerous medications that I know for fact can cause some SERIOUS problems.....Especially when combined together, and taken by someone that has a history of stomach ulcers and pain (myself).  He prescribed Coumadin (for blood clots), Pletal (for vascular disease), Low-Dose Aspirin (also for blood thinning), Naproxen and/or Advil (for pain ..... Tylenol doesn't work for me).  I also take other meds, but I don't think they have any effect on my stomach (Cardizem (for Atrial Fib), Pravastatin (also for vascular disease), and 2 Inhalers (for emphysema and bronchiactasis).

I've been taking most of these for a long time now ... EXCEPT for the Naproxen/Advil and Low-Dose Aspirin ... I just started taking these about 2 weeks ago.  Every since though, I've been experiencing some really bad stomach pains.  I called and told my doctor about the pains.  He said that he realizes it could cause an upset stomach and even potential problems, but that I really needed to continue the medications because of the other medical problems that I'm having.  I guess bascially what he's saying is that the benefits outweighs the risks.  HOWEVER, I'M NOT SURE!!!!

What do you guys think?  Don't you think taking this combination of medicines is highly dangerous?  My gosh, I'm scared to death that I'm going to get a cut, or hit my head or something, and bleed profusely.  It seems like we're flirting with disaster here.
