FYI - YOU CAN DIE FROM ABDOMINAL PAIN. It happens all the time.

No kidding. Read other posts on this topic and you will stories of people were shocked to lose relatives to severe stomach aches.
40% of adults in USA have diverticulitus and have no signs or symptoms. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001303

Diverticulitus mixed with constipation can easily lead to a large or small leakage of fecal matter in the body cavity. If this sewage enters the blood steam, your poop can end up in your brain, your lungs, your liver, kidneys and heart and can lead to a very fast but very painful death called sepsis or septic shock.

DO NOT **** AROUND with this. It can kill you. If you have extreme abdominal pain go to the ER. Not a med-stop and ER.

I speak from personal experience. I survived it. But some people don't.

I stand corrected.
You can die from what is causing your abdominal pain.
Go to the doc or ER.

I would say that a person doesn't die "from" the abdominal pain...it is a signal and symptom of the underlying condition and a red flag that there is something else going on a lot more serious. Pain = something wrong = don't delay going to ER ASAP!! Severe abdominal pain can mean many things...pancreatitis attack, gallstones lodged in bile ducts causing blockage and infection leading to peritonitis and death...it could be late stage liver disease like cirrhosis, which is also often unnoticed due to the liver having no nerve pain sensors, so people often have liver damage silently happening for decades until they have end stage liver disease or cancer...

Anytime there is pain, as the original poster commented, it is nothing to ignore. The toxins that build up in the body quickly from bacteria from leakage or perforations in bowels is deadly.

Our bodies let us know with pain, and other symptoms, like changes in bowel movements, regularity, color, texture etc...these are at times passing issues, but if they persist for more than a few days it becomes extremely serious to seek medical attention.

Thanks for sharing an important insight...although again to clarify...it is not people dying from abdominal pain...it is the SOURCE of the abdominal pain and the reason for that pain that will lead to death if unattended to. The abdominal pain is the signal that something is wrong. It is the sepsis that causes abdominal pain that can, and does, cause death. Because we can so often have abdominal pain that turns out to be nothing serious, people often ignore it thinking it will go away. Especially if a person has an underlying medical condition that is diagnosed, like diverticulitis, and they get severe abdominal pain they need to get to the ER fast and don't ignore it.
