Fatty Liver & Ativan

by Steve__0__0, Oct 10, 1998 12:00AM

  Dear Doctor:
Recently, my stomach ultrasound determined that I have a
fatty liver. I am not sure, what caused it. My doctor suggested
that I eat well (non-fat) and do exercise.
Over the last year or so, I gained around 5 kg (i.e. app. 9-10
pounds). I used to eat lots of chocolate and I have been using
a medicine called Ativan for the last 5-6 years.
Specifically my question is related to the usage of Ativan. Can
Ativan cause further damage on my liver? Should I stop using it?
  Thanks in advance.

Dear Steve,
It is unlikely that Ativan i9s the cause for your fatty liver.  If, however, the medication is not necessary, then I suggest that you stop the Ativan.
