Feeling too full to eat enough

Over the past two weeks or so, I have been unable to eat more than six bites of food before feeling too full to eat anymore.  Also, I don't know if this will make sense, the food tastes the same but I just don't like it nearly as much.  It seems like a chore to have to chew and swallow food.  It is not hard but somehow seems tiresome.  I get very hungry when I haven't eaten in a long time, but then I think my eyes are literally bigger than my stomach.  No matter how hungry I am when I start eating, I can only choke down 1/2 to 3/4 cups of food.  I am losing weight because of this, not that I couldn't stand to lose weight, but my clothes are hanging off of me.  I know my appetite decreases in the heat, but I'm worried that I'm going to get malnourished.  Despite eating very little at a time, I don't get hungry any more often than before.  This is a consistent problem with all the food I've been eating, from chocolate cake to grilled salmon to cheeseburgers.  Any ideas?

I had the same problem at one time, still do on an occassion. Have you had any type of illness recently. Virus or flu? You don't necessarily have to have an illness to get this other problem but they think that or diabetes is a major cause. Sounds like you have Gastroparesis. Do you have nausea along with it? Gastroparesis is where the motility in your stomach decreases and it takes longer to digest what you have eaten. I would reccomend going to see a GI doctor who can do whats called a Gastric Emptying Study. I had that test done and my stomach was only emptying out 5.7% of what I ate over 90 minutes. So my stomach was always full. See a GI doctor and hopefully you can get an answer.

Have you had any pain or fever.  Have you had what felt like the flu in the past 6 months?

If so definately visit a GI dr.  If not you can wait another week or so and see if it gets better.   Even if you are not hungry eat 1/2 cup every 2 to 3 hours.  That way you will get more food in.  Don't wait until you are hungry since you can only eat that much anyway.  Try drinking ensure etc.   If not better in a week, see the GI dr.   You could go ahead and make an appointment since it will probably take awhile to get in.  Then if the symptoms go away you can cancel.

Not being able to eat and weight loss is often a symptom of ulcer, reflux, chrons, etc.
So make that appointment.

eh just some ideas but you could be having a minor ulcer..usually it causes bloating and over time it'll get painful...there is a blood test for that and if not an endoscope might be a good idea to find out what it going on in there.

Another idea would be you're slightly intolerant/allergic to something like wheat/soy or something like that.  Usually with ulcer or intolerance's you'd have some IBS symptoms but not always..

just some ideas.  Maybe one visit to a GI specialist for questions...or trial of acid reducers.
