This is something you have to talk to your doc about. The other drug that is used is typically considered the drug of 'last resort' to treat the C. diff. You can't let it go untreated, so please get back to your doc and talk about what the next step is going to be.
Hi Bellaboo, recovering from C Diff as well here. While probiotics such as Flora Q and Florastor are studied to be helpful in recovery, Ive seen nothing to suggest one should try them alone - and never without the supervision of a qualified doctor well trained in treating C Diff. Many many have problems with Flagyl - my Flagyl round failed. The next in line med is called vancomycin. Most recover with 1-2 rounds of antibiotics, so hang in there - it does get better. Each doctor seems to treat C Diff differently, but if you explain to yours the problems experienced with Flagyl, he/she may change you over to the vanco. Also, whenever you start then stop any antibiotic, you are upsetting your gut flora - which will only slow down your healing, as this is how C Diff thrives. Call your doc and soon, and www.cdiffsupport.com has a wealth of information and studies that both you and your doctor may find helpful. Feel better soon - but truly, call your doctor.
I got violently ill taking Flagyl and was switched to Vancomycin. There is a great nausea drug called Zofran that my dr now prescribes when I have to take any strong antibiotics.
