Follow-up to "Mild lower abdominal ache and right side burning sensation"

by Eric55, Jul 06, 2007 12:00AM
I've had a liver funtion test and my values are:

AST 52 (0-45)
ALT 20 (6-45)
Alk. Phosphatase 86 (34-119)
Albumin 5.1 (4.4-5.6)
Total Bilirubin .8 (.2-1.1)
Direct Bilirubin .1 (0-.3)
Globulin 2.5 (2.0-5.0)

In parenthesis is the reference range on my results.

Could fatty liver cause my discomfort as the burning and ache is to the right of and below the liver? And does fatty liver show in liver function test or only by CT or ultrasound? Also, my CT scan was of my entire upper body. Is it possible to be colon related?

Thanks

Fatty liver is certainly possible.  It will show both on an ultrasound or CT scan.

An abdominal CT scan would primarily cover the upper abdominal area.  If you want to image the lower abdomen, a pelvic CT should be ordered.

The best way to look at the colon would be via a colonoscopy.

These questions should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I had the upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. Colon fine. There is an inflammation of my stomach and two biopsies were taken. Waiting to see what the results are. I was also prescribed Nexium. Does seem like typical GERD as there is no burning in my chest or esophagus, only far right side flank of ribs. Not sure if a stomach inflammation can cause this but my GI says it's possible. Although she was brief as they still need to test the biopsies.
