For about three weeks, it hurt really bad when I tried to have a bowl movement

by sctt859, Jun 20, 2009 03:35PM
When my stool passed through to the toilet, it felt like there was something there and it would hurt very bad as my stool came out, last night, I woke up with very bad diarrhea when I went to the bath room all this bright red blood poured out, a lot. I cleaned it and went to sleep very worried, I had a bowl movement again this morning and while I did not feel any pain blood still came out not as much as it did last night but it was still a good amount, I went again to the bath room, no blood came out, had to go again then blood came out again.

The blood seems to not be as much each time I go to bath room and I also no longer feel any pain in my anus when I have a bowl movement.

Did something burst? Is this something to be very worried about?

bright red blood means it's near the exit point...dark blood means higher up...

so yeah you either have an anal fissure (slight tear at the opening) or possible hemroids of some kind..

Honestly, I'd make an appoinment with the doctor just in case but you could sit it out since you're improving already.. in the meantime eat small meals..maybe go to the grocery store and take a stool softener like colace or miralax to take the pressure off the colon wall..zero straining and hopefully it'll heal on it's own (sounds like it is..) but still i'm not a doctor and blood in the stool can be a few things... so better get that checked out eventually.

It sounds like you had a lot of blood, which does concern me, but I also agree with Matthew.  Hemorrhoids bleed, and make your anus hurt.  You said that when you went the first time it felt like something was there, and now it's gone, you feel better and the bleeding has subsided.  So, it sound slike something did burst, but what I'm not sure.  So, just be very watchful, and if you experience this again, I would see a doctor, or go to the ER if you are bleeding a lot.

I just got back from the ER with bleeding; mammo's advice is excellent...I have a Ph.D in pharmacology, but unfortunately little in the way of common sense:  get your problem evaluated by a physician; if needed get it treated.  if not, go have a beer on me..

Thanks alot all but im going to skip med help I have no insurrance..good news today though I had a huge BM and there was no blood any where even on the toilet paper there was no blood, and there was no pain when it came out, which is a blessing cause I would cringe going to the bathroom, so if anything I must have popped something.

Thank you all for your help I was very scared the only thing keeping me from calling the ambulance was the fact that the poop was bright red and not black or dark

I'm happy to hear that you are feeling much better.  For futuer reference though, a lot of bright red blood can also mean something serious, just that it's lower in the bowel or recturm.  So, never let a large amount of bright red blood stop you from seeking help also.  Good news though!!!!!!!!
