GI issues

Hi doc,

Well I took your advice last week and had some testing done, incase you do not remember, I was having lots of mucous and food in stools, also not allergic to some foods, but having inflammatory response to a bunch of foods, have constipation, fevers, cannot tolerate high carb intake and or sugar??  The high carbs makes me even more constipated and makes me retain alot of water, sugar makes me feel the next day like a hangover, night sweats, etc?  Like my body is not processing them?

My Family doc says I probably have candida, or bacteria overgrowth, causing the intolerance to sugar and carbs? could this be the case?

So had a Ct scan done, showed thickening of the wall in the jejuneum--so went and had the Bowel series test done with lots of Barium and that came out normal--did not see the thickening--??  Why???

Had celiac test done, was normal

Had IGE done for milk was negative, but the IGG was way off the charts, maybe lactose is the problem?

Had colonoscopy and endoscopy done--which sent out 4 biopsy do not have those results as of yet, but did say that I have really bad case of GERD, some inner hemmoroids (hemorrhoids), and put me on some Amitza for the constipation, but now have lots of diarrhea, maybe because I started them on empty stomach so close to the colonoscopy being done?

But still lots of food in diarrhea?

Now Doc wants me to get a Hida scan done?  What are your thoughts? I do not have pain, really, maybe mildly?

thanks for your advice and help, Des

I continue to think malabsorption may be a possible cause, and I agree with the testing that you have done thus far.

Waiting for the results of the biopsy should be done before considering the next step, as the results can change the management course.

Both bacterial overgrowth and lactose intolerance can be diagnosed with the appropriate breath tests, which could be arranged by your gastroenterologist.

The HIDA scan can be done to evaluate the gallbladder ejection fraction.  If the upper abdominal symptoms persist, that would be a reasonable thing to do.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
