The problem began just 4 and a half months ago when one night, I awoke with an intense stomach cramp, nausea and gag reflexesBabinski's reflex Infantile reflexes Moro reflex Urge incontinence all night long. After seeing the doctor, I had a blood test, an abdominal ultrasound and bariumBarium enema Barium ingestion Barium sulfate Upper gi and small bowel series swallow, which all 3 results turned out normalNormal saline flush. I was put on NexiumNexium Nexium i.v., which fixed the stomach cramp but it did littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys to relieve the nausea and gag reflexes that I still suffer from. The nausea occurs randomly - usually 2-3 times a week after any meal. Most of the time, it would go away after some burps or a drink of coke. When that fails, I would take Ranitidine, which slightly relieves the nausea. Other days when I'm fortunate, my stomach would be completely fine regardless of what I eat. My stomach seems to have this habit of acting up at least twice a week. Why does this happen?
On days when my stomach is as fine as can be, I would be going around doing my daily activities when I'm suddenly attacked by a gag reflex. This happens randomly during the day (maybe 3-5 times). My heart would start racing and I gag for a second or two, which makes me feel like I would actually throw up. However, I haven't actually thrown up from this yet and I really hope I don't because I have emetophobia, which I'm trying my hardest to overcome. Does anyone know why the gag reflexes persist and what can be done to relieve it?
Thank you in advance for any of your insight on this!
