Gagging/clicking in throat...

Hey all! So I seem to be suffereing from this weird health issue, that apperently only Dr. House could diagnois. Since I was fifteen I have had this constant problem with my throat, that has just become unbareable. I have a painful grinding/clicking feeling in my throat, coughing/gagging fits so bad that I have thrown up because of how hard my throat tightens, difficulty swallowing saliva, and these horrible periods where have shortness of breath and it feels like I am suffocating, as well a general feeling that I need to clear my throat. The breathing problem is espically bad in the morning, shortly after I wake up. I pushed my parents to take me to ever specialists you could imagine to try and find some diagnosis, but no one could ever come up with anything. I've had endoscopys and everything looked normal. I was told that it was just anxiety, but there is no way that the pain I feel in my throat is caused my anxiety. I'm hoping that someone else on this site may have gone through something similar and might know of anything that this could possibly be.

Hi rfelixia.
You may have low tissue magnesium, something doctors don't check.
If they do check, rarely does it show low, because they order a blood test
and guess what--> there's a safety mechanism that keeps serum magnesium (blood levels) at a tight range around 1-1.5 %.
Magnesium is a softening/relaxing mineral and its counterpart is calcium, which has the opposite effect, so these 2 must be in a proper ratio to keep
things in balance.
Low magnesium may also increase stress and may contribute to anxiety.
Stress and anxiety usually, if not always, cause physical symptoms.

Another connection is with the thyroid function, which among other substances, requires magnesium for proper function.
Thyroid function has to do with energy management to carry through tasks like enzyme activation, metabolic processes, repair/maintenance of the cells, healing etc.  Any body system, any organ  can be adversely affected when thyroid function is low, even at sub-clinical levels.
Usually the weaker parts suffer first and the most.
Besides magnesium, proper thyroid function requires enough iron, selenium, vitamin D, iodine, zinc to name a few.
If you decide  for thyroid testing ask and insist for Free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3, tests. The standard tests most doctors order are TSH, T3 & T4, which only indicate circulating serum thyroid hormone levels and NOT thyroid function!
There are many people in limbo (some for their entire lives), because their doctors told them their thyroid levels are fine, yet they are hypothyroid, because the thyroid hormones don't make into the cells to perform their work! (thyroid resistance or type 2 hypothyroidism)
Medicine has many dark and black areas and many holes-I'm sure you're finding this out through this present experience.

Some suggestions:
Get some magnesium oil and do daily treatments as a trial, specially around your neck and throat, but full body treatments (wait for 30 minutes for the magnesium to be absorbed) followed by a nice long shower, are very soothing and relaxing. Must do daily at first for a few straight weeks.
Orally you can get magnesium glycinate which is one form tolerated better.
You can also try on your own Dr Barnes Basal Temperature Test-just search this online- for thyroid function.

Best wishes,
Niko
And finally optimize your diet and aleays stay well hydrated.
