Gall Bladder???

I am a 32 y/o male who doesnt have the best diet in the world but I am active. I have been having URQ pain starting in the dead center of my chest going straight through to my back since 2006. The pain comes when I eat fatty or fried foods, drink excess amount of alcohol, overeat..etc. My bpwel movents are always loose or just diahreah and often have to have a BM after eating. I have let this pain go untreated because thats what I do. I tend to let things run its course. My most recent attack came last monday and the pain wouldnt go away so i finally went to the hospital. They did an US and found no stones but the GB was contracted. My PC dr the next day referred me to a GI dr and an US. The followup US showed nothing. The GI sent me for a HIDA scan with CCK. i had cramping with the CCK. The results showed that my GB had an EF of 57% which is normal. Tomorrow I am having an endoscopy. I am extremely frustrated because since my last attack I have had URQ pain, diahreah, acid reflux, chest pain among other things. Since my HIDA scan shows normal.... I am at a loss. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

well... last night I had go go back to the ER, the pain was too intense and my wife made the call  because she knows I hate the hospital. They did all the same tests as last time except this time they did a cat scan of my abdomen and that test of course showed nothing. I am truly lost at this point. i dont think I will go back to the hosp. unless i am unconcious. I went to the hosp after eating a chicken sandwich at 6pm and didnt leave the hosp till almost 4am. Blood work on Monday to determine some other things and to see if i am lactose intolerant. Thank you all for your help but dont think they will find an answer anytime soon.

So sorry your test did not show anything - I know how it feels to have so many tests done and all seem to appear "normal".  We went through 1-1/2 yrs with my son.  Again, the only test that showed his gallbladder problems was the endoscopy WITH ULTRASOUND.  The ultrasound actually takes picture of the inside of your GB.  Hate to be repetitive, but perhaps you can request this test.  I know you just want ANSWERS at this point - Good Luck!

soooo. endoscopy was ok. The Doc found a nodule and removed it as well as some tissue for biopsy. So i am no closer to an answer today than I was yesterday. Its very disheartening to not have an explanation to all this discomfort and pain. Bloodwork on monday which will most likely be normal as well.

My son's HIDA test showed 20% reduction in the GB function which one doctor did not see as significant.  Not sure what CCK is but he did have an injection of some sort and the test took approx. 1 hr and 45 min. while the material went through.  His endoscopy w/o ultra sound showed the GERD and nothing with his GB.   Just thought I could save you having the endoscopy twice (as my son did approx. 4 wks apart).  The (endoscopy) ultrasound is what showed the problems with the GB.  If your endoscopy comes back okay, you may want to ask about having it with the ultrasound.   I think part of the reason for the step by step with these tests is that the insurance companies won't approve certain tests before other tests have been performed; ie.  first you have an xray, then a CT Scan, etc..., never the other way around.   PS - My son's regular ultrasound only showed 1 polyp - not the 6 gallstones he actually has which the Endo w/US clearly shows.

thank you so much for the reply. Tomorrow i am having the endoscopy but it is without an US. Hope they see something. What were the results of your sons HIDA test? Was it with CCK? Do you remember the ejection rate percentage?

I have been posting regarding my son's abdominal pain.  After numerous tests (HIDA, US, X-Rays with die, Colonoscopy with biopsies, Endoscopies -I think that's all)  which showed little to nothing, he had an endoscopy with ultrasound yesterday and it showed gallstones and inflamed gallbladder.  I strongly suggest the endoscopy WITH ultrasound as just the endoscopy did not show anything (other than his GERD).  Good luck, I know how you must be suffering, my son's been in pain for 1-1/2 years.  Hopefully, he will have his GB removed next week.
