Gall bladder pain

Is it possible to have gall bladder attack symptoms if you have had surgery to remove the gall bladder?  My surgery was approx. 10 years ago.

Thank you

No, this can't happen.  It sounds like referred pain from something else.

I have to disagree with mammo - I had my gall bladder out in 1998 and have had periodic bouts of gall bladder attack symptoms since then (not as severe as before I had the gall bladder out, but still very painful).  My gastroenterologist told me that it is possible to have these attacks after having the gall bladder removed - mostly if when they did the surgery, they happen to have missed a stone (or even a piece of one) in one of the ducts.  It is also possible to have these symptoms if the pressure in the ducts is elevated (for one reason or another) - which is what the problem has been in my case.  I do not have any remaining stones or portions of one, but I do have elevated pressure in the ducts.  I would request at least an ultrasound of the gall bladder area to have them check for a missed stone - they can also check your pressures with this.

I hope you feel better!

P.S.  I also have found that if I eat too much fatty foods, I can get these attacks and my doc said it's because one of the gall bladder's functions is to filter out fat from our food and without it it's like our body is being overloaded.  A lower fat diet helped.

I agree with geminigirl1963.  My sister just had a series of "attacks" and was diagnosed with narrowing and clogging of her ducts near the gallbladder.  She had a temporary stent put in on Thursday to see if it alleviates her pain and symptoms and if so she will have a permanent stent placed in January.  I had never heard of this before and thought it may be helpful to you.  Her GB surgery was at least 10-15 years ago also.  You should see a doctor - Good Luck!
