Gallbladder surgery- Let's hear the stories!

Okay i am having gallbladder surgery next tuesday. Yes i am nervous...i know it is silly.
I would like to hear others experiences and their recovery. I am also a thyroid patient so i worry about that.

Has anyone had breathing issues from their gallbladder? I cannot seem to take in a full complete breath at times.

I felt at times that I couldn't breath before the surgery yes but I also suffer from anxiety so that can play a big role in the pattern...Nerves will too....All I did was think positive I'm experiencing the side pain others have talked about but it's my belief that I slept wrong laffin as it was no where near the pain I was in before...The surgical nurses are really good in helping you relax and breath and you will have oxygen mask....GL...Yes I'm doing well just need to change some eating habits in my lifestyle and can't wait to be back to normal...

I am post surgery and at times feel a sharp pain and shortness of breath but I take a few seconds to breath and work through it.  I am 8 days post surgery and still experiencing extreme nasuea and dizziness which is what I faced before surgery... did anyone else experience this?

Did any of you have breathing issues (labored) before the surgery? Feels like you cannot take in a full breath?

BlueAngel- I feel for you as i am a single mom and remember how hard it is to care for young child alone. :)

wb- sounds like you had a good experience and are healing very nicely. :)

I just called and made a pre-op appt with my internest for tomorrow to make sure i sound clear in the lungs....it doesn't feel like it is caused by lungs though.

I forgot to mention that the night I got home from the surgery I felt a warm pack on my shoulder reallly helped with reducing the shoulder pain...I'm third day now and I feel really good accept for the meds that I was on working it's way through my system I can't handle the T3 with Codeine and am on Extra Strength Tylenol right now I'm able to get my own toast coffee etc....I'm taking it as easy as I can and am really tired still but have a 2 and half year old to care for!

I had mine out 10 days ago and I had no problems...Once I got to the hospital and in the pre-op room, they put in my iv and gave me some meds to relax me...I was extremely nervous....Then they took me back to the OR....I was so nervous I was shaking, they helpe me get on the operating table and put the stockings on me tha fill with air and I could feel them, but that was really about all I remember, I was so nervous the anestesiaologist came in and said that he was going to go ahead and make me sleepy....I remember him standing beside me, then they put the mask on and told me to take a couple of deep breathes....the next thing I remember I woke up with a nurse asking me if I was in pain....I was scared when I first woke up because my vision was blurred, but they said that was normal and it did wear off in few minues....I stayed in recovery about an hour after I woke up and then I was able to go home....I did take my prescribed pain meds every 4-6 hours for the 1st three days.... I had some naseua for the first two days and I slept alot for the first 5 or 6 days....I felt so tired all the time but I rested and now I am feeling much better. I also had some shoulder discomfort for he 1st couple of days from the gas, but getting up and moving helped....I was off the pain meds by day 5 and I still have some discomfort but it isn't bad....I am still tender when I get up and down, but I am able to do light house work now....be sure you have a pillow or something to hold to you when you get up and down...I hope this helps ease your fears... and feel free to ask anything....

Thank you all for your encouragement. I know it is silly to be scared, but as you all know I think we get nervous from the what ifs.
Hopefully I will figure out where the breathing issue and pressure and pain in diaphragm area is from.
Yes we are all different...lol
The surgeon seems absolutely wonderful with a great sense of humor! He even took the time to answer my 13 yr old daughters questions! lol
I am having it done in a surgical center not a hospital, so it is a warmer environment. They gave me a tour of it and even got to peak in at the operating rooms. :)
Ariom- I wrote you a message on your other post wishing you peace and protection today! I will check up on you tomorrow since you will be out of it today! LOL

I am having mine today at 11am...will certainly let you know what to expect..but remember we all have our stories and we are all different.

I am very nervous too....but they keep you pretty drugged up as soon as they get you there.  That's even before they give you the oxgyen mask, they start with benzo's to relieve the anxiety!!!

Good luck!!!!

I had mine removed last December. You have no idea what relief I feel now. I don't know what kind of symptoms you have, but I was in unbearable pain every time I would eat. I've rarely had problems, recently the area has had a "tight" feeling, I'm not sure if it is scar tissue - I'm actually about to ask that on here somewhere, haha. The surgery overall went really well. I did have a bad reaction to Vicodin, but that was post-op. I was sore and ready to eat again two days after. All I have left is a few minor scars. Good luck!

ive had mine out...really is no biggie. The pain is bad, but pain killers help well....just be careful with them. You will be bed ridden for a good 5 days, just take it easy and let your body recover. Its been 3 years but i still have my stomach pain... didnt fix anything, but thats cuz they said it has a 50/50 to fix it...got the wrong side of the coin. But thats just my experience, ive known a lot of people whom its helped a lot. goodluck

I'm sorry I cannot help you that much about the thyroid problem concern...I just had my gull bladder removed laproscipicly this past Sat afternoon....I was really nervous as well just remain calm sweety it's not that bad....They put surgerical stockings on you to help with the circulation in your legs during the during...You lay on the table they put a breathing mask on you...You will have an IV and they administure the anthesic and it's off to dream land....All though I don't remember dreaming you will wake up in recovering with a oxygen mask on just to help with your levels....I felt severe nausia they gave me gravol and it went away...I also experienced severe shoulder pain which can also happen from the air that was put into your stomach....

I was up and walking an hour and half after my surgery and home the same night...The pain hurts still when I get up and sit down but walk as much as you possibly can as it helps with the excess gas you need to release....GL and I'm here if you need to talk.
