Gallstones after Surgrey.

by pxs0024, Oct 07, 2009 11:13AM
Gallbladder was removed in 2000. I've have pain on my right side below my right breast radiating to my back. Sharp pains almost like a contraction.  This has been going on for the past 9 years on and off.  I've just been treated for H Pyloric for the second time and has also been treated for GERD, IBS and Heartburn.  Now I'm being tested for Pancreatis. Is it possible for stones not to show in CT's or Xray? When my gb was removed they told me before surgery that I only has a few little stones and the the surgery should take that long, when the got in there the bag was filled and ready to burse taking 4-5 hours to remove them all.  I'm worired about the Pancreatis as my uncle dies at 38 with this type of cancer. What else could be causing these sharp sporadic spasms?

You may want to ask for an MRCP to double-check the possibility of stones in the common bile duct, or sludge. It's possible to form it after surgery. CT's can miss that. And the stones/sludge could contribute to the development of pancreatitis.

You should also ask your doc if it's possible that you might be experiencing spasms of the common bile duct or sphincter of Oddi - a condition called SOD (sphincter of Oddi dysfunction). There are some forms of anti-spasm meds that might help such as nitroglycerin or specific calcium channel blockers.

If you're not following a low fat diet you may want to consider trying that.
