Gas, mild diarrhea, bloating

Dear Medical experts,
I am a male of 26 years age. I have been facing stomach related problems from the past 5 months. It all started with going to restroom twice or thrice a day. Now, there is constant gas formation, mild diarrhea (2-3 times a day) and bloating. Sometimes, I have to urinate frequently. I do not have fever or weight loss or do not see blood in my stools. The stool is not properly formed and I think i am not able to digest properly. I drink water at a regular basis and avoid soda. I am not understanding what is causing the problem because I never had this kind of problem earlier. I went to my family doctor and he advised stool tests, blood tests but they seem to be normal. I went to urologist to see if it is problem caused due to the frequent urination that I have sometimes. He referred to a test for the bladder (some radiology test and I forgot the name of it) and found nothing there.

Now, this gas, uncomfortable feeling of the stomach with bloating and bowel movements, i am feeling terrible. I am not understanding how to proceed in this case.

I would really appreciate your valuable input and suggestions. Thanks a million,

You're welcome.  Hopefully, the stress level gets down where it needs to be.  If it doesn't, you might check with a doctor about short term use of a mild tranquilizer, such as librium and see if that doesn't help your  overactivity with your bowel and bladder.

Yeah, I get the equate brand at Walmart.  It won't likely help the gas and bloating feelings, but is bulk forming.  You might try simethicone for the gas.  I once a heard a doctor recommend peptobismol for smelly gas.

I was diagnosed with IBS about 3 years ago and was experiencing most of the symptoms that you have named off. The metamucil should help with regulation, but one thing that I have found works for the discomfort is (Digestive Advantage - IBS). Even if you dont have IBS this medicine will not hurt you. It is an over-the-counter medication that you can purchase at any wal-mart or pharmacy. It merely helps to lower the acid production in your stomach which causes the gasiness and discomfort. If there is too much acid production in your stomach, your stomach will not digest your food correctly therefore causing irregular bowel movements. Stress will also deffinantly aggravate your stomach whether you have IBS or not, but with the metamucil and the digestive advantage, neither of them will hurt you. They are both merely herbal suppliments that most of us don't get enough of in our every day diet.

Metamucil is supposed to help you form bulk while helping keep people regular (original texture if you get a generic works best for me, you might mix with a little G2 for flavor), but you must drink enough water with it to prevent stool from getting too hard.  I definitely can say from experience that stress can affect both bladder and bowels, including giving frequent diarrhea.  I believe you have IBS, as I do, it can aggravate the more active side of IBS when you are overly stressed.  If you believe stress might be the issue, you can hopefully try to cut back on stress, but if you believe it's definitely not possible, you might ask about short term use of a mild tranquilizer with a doctor and see if it doesn't improve.

Thanks for taking time on my problem.. I was not advised yet for cystoscopy w/hydrodistension yet..I will speak to my doctor about having it done..Meanwhile, can you suggest me if there is no harm in taking metamucil (if it is a OTC)..I was stressed due to personal problems beginning this year for 3-4 months..but my doctor never asked me about that..do you think anxiety will cause such issues? I really am thankful for your replies...

This is not the expert forum side, but I will ask you did they do a cystoscopy w/hydrodistension to check for interstitial cystitis of the bladder?  Did they suggest irritable bowel syndrome and suggest taking metamucil with plenty of water to help you to have more formed stools?  Did they suggest that stress & anxiety can often affect bowel and bladder habits?
