Gastric adenoma - HELP

Hi everyone.

Recently, I underwent a gastric endoscopy to check on a previous ulcer, caused by H. Pylori. My doctor told me that the ulcer had completely healed and there were no traces of the bacterium (after treatment with antibiotics). Also, he took a biopsy sample from the antrum, where the ulcer was before.

The report from the biopsy had the following findings: severe hyperplasia of the gastric fossae in most samples, as well as indications of moderate chronic atrophic gastritis. Neither intestinal metaplasia nor epithiliac dysplasia was observed. A part of the stomach mucosa was examined. Most of it consisted of a tubular adenoma with mild epithiliac dysplasia. No indications of malignant or neoplastic transformations were present.

My doctor told me that I had some sort of polyps, suggested that I repeat the examination in 8 months and didn't mention any possibilities of removal.

1) Can anyone tell me whether I should be worried about the severity of this condition or if there is a possibility for malignancy (and if so how great is it?)?

2)Do I need to have these polyps removed?

3)Should I check with another doctor or, maybe, go to a specialized center?

Any help or clarification on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

The tissue samples sound like what the pathologist saw was 'depressed' polyps, so they're not like the ones 'standing up' above the surface of the tissue, but I'm not sure based on the description. However, any polyp should be removed when it's found. Make sure you clarify with him whether or not this was 'below the surface' or above, and if above, was this the only one seen.

At this point, the way your report reads, it's nothing to lose any sleep over, but it is something that should be monitored. What I'm wondering is if the chronic atrophic gastritis was H. pylori induced. If that is what your doc feels is the case, then that should reverse itself in time. But if you are currently on PPIs and he does not feel that the (atrophic) gastritis was due to the H. pylori, you may want to find out why you're on the meds. (You didn't mention currently being on meds....)

In general, you're 'way down' on the scale of 'serious.' But do make sure you do everything you can to get your stomach back into normal working order.
