Gastroenteritis - Similar Experience and Opinions?
Hi all, I made some posts recently regarding my place of work and it's general uncleanliness. I feel as though I have been through the mill over the past 2 years. Despite my great protests, my workplace is literally filthy. People generally seem ill with common
colds and bugs most of the time, and do little to stop their spread as they are told to just "get on with it" I'm almost certain the toilets are never cleaned, nor is the rest of the factory. I'm 27, of a healthy weight and eat well most of the time.
Anyhow onto myself a few weeks ago I had a completely unexplained and very strong stomach cramp, so much so I was almost unable to walk. This lasted half an hour and then subsided. I had no more ill effects and carried on with my daily business. The following week I experienced the same cramping, only this time accompanied by fever
and extreme tiredness. I also suffered a bout of diarrhea along with this that lasted around 48hrs, with a very small amount of red blood and mucous. Roughly a week later the same happened again. It seems that going to the toilet relieves the pain of the cramps.
Then onto this week, when I experienced the same cramping and started with diarrhea but in the night. I woke up the next day and needed the toilet and was suffering badly with cramps. To my shock
my first 5 or so bowel movements were simply blood and mucus. Obviously I phoned the doctor immediately, and I had a physical examination including an anal examination. He said it seems to be a passing bout of Gastroenteritis
and that the blood was nothing to worry about because it is bright red. If the problem continues onwards he suggests I go back to see him for further tests. He also indicated that the fact that I am young means the chances of this being a nasty is very slim.
So I'd like to hear what others think of this situation. If you have been in the situation, does this sound familiar, and how can you deal with it? I've tried to up my fiber intake and am drinking lots and lots of water to try and shift this bug on. Obviously due to my workplace I am just carrying some baby-wipes around to keep everything I touch as clean as possible (going to the toilet etc.) Are there any other things I need to know or should be doing to (hopefully) help ease this problem and prevent it in future?
