Gastroparesis: Any new treatments?

Gastroparesis: Any new treatments?

I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis about 2 years ago.  I have been off and on Reglan/Metoclopramide, but from what I've been reading, it doesn't sound like it's very good.  Has anyone else here been diagnosed with gastroparesis, and if so, what kind of treatment are you on?  Thanks!

Hi.  Just wondering what your symptoms are for gastroparesis?  I have hour-long bouts of intense abdominal pain that seems like cramps or spasms.  My gastro doc thinks I'm having stomach spasms.  I Googled that and found several hits for gastroparesis, which I'm not familiar with...

I have this condition.  The main symptom is feeling uncomfortably full after just eating a few bites of food since my stomach does not empty at anywhere near the rate it should.  I have found domperidone very helpful.  Unfortunately, it is not legal in the USA so your Dr would have to get permission for you to get this drug or you can get it through a Canadian online pharmacy, like I do.  Hope this helps.

I was diagnosed with gastroparesis 2 years ago as well. My doctor also prescribed Domperidone from a Canadian pharmacy. It has helped. It's worth asking your doctor about. Reglan has so many uncomfortable side effects.

annabell7 - I'm exactly the same as you.  The only real symptom I have is just that feeling of being so full after very little food.  I had the emptying test and it showed that I have an extraordinarily long delay of stomach emptying.

It seems like that is the most common symptom, along with nausea, but luckily I don't have that issue.

I've read a lot about Domperidone.  I just don't know how it works getting prescribed it or actually getting it since it's only available in Canada.  Have you guys found either of these things to be difficult?

Your doctor can write a prescription for Domperidone and then you fax the prescription to a doctor in Canada. Your doctor will give you that information. Once you fax the prescription you have to mail the original prescription to the clinic as well. I think I had to fax my driver's license number and a couple other identity verifying things too. I can't remember what they were though. Within a couple of weeks your medicine arrives in the mail. When you need a refill you just call the clinic and they send your refill. It's pretty easy and well worth it!
