...finally an answer to the bloating, fullness and downright feeling bad. I tried Reglan and it did not help at all. My doc just put me on Domperidone which I had to get at a compounding pharmacy because it apparently isn't FDA approved yet. Has anyone been on this stuff?? Does it help? I am on 10 mgs 3 times daily. I would like some relief from this. Some times I'll even throw up if I eat the wrong things (still learning) or I guess if my stomach hasn't emptied the previous meal yet.....Oh well at least I'm not at the point of being only on liquids! Thanks Elizabeth
Does it help? Yes, it does. It's not a miracle drug, but it's helpful, particularly when it comes to nausea and bloating. Not so much when it comes to heartburn, if you have that.
Next, however, is finding out WHY you have gastroparesis
. One thing I've learned is that GP isn't a diagnosis (or shouldn't be), it's a symptom. Finding out might not be easy, however, so make sure you don't give up looking for an answer if it's not readily identifiable.
Having just gotten that diagnosis, you may want to go to Yahoo Groups and check out the Gastroparesis
and Sjogrens syndrome (which can cause Gastroparesis). I will be seeing my neurologist Monday and I suspect I will get the diagnosis of Autonomic Neuropathy. I have had these stomach symptoms since August. I can only eat a little at a time. How long did it take for you to notice a difference with the domperidone?? The only thing I've noticed since being on Reglan and now domperidone is more frequent urination. My GI is sending me for some sort of test where you breath into something that measure bacteria in your stomach. Already had the endoscopy just GERD. Thanks! Elizabeth
I read your comment on Gastorparesis and the medicine called Domperidone. I spoke to my doctor and he's reluctant to give me a prescription for this medication. And on Canadian site you need to have prescription in order to get this medication. Any help in regards to getting this med w/out prescription.
The only way I know of getting this drug safely is by getting a prescription. (I don't trust non-prescription sites.) If your doc is hesitant to prescribe it, ask why. It might simply be because (s)he has not previously before worked or even heard of the drug. (I find only gastroenterologists who are very familiar with gastroparesis really even know about it.) If that's the case, find a doctor who specializes in gastroparesis, or someone who knows a great deal about it, and see them for a prescription. Otherwise, you can also present your doctor with the drug's information and ask them to learn about it and why you're requesting it, rather than refusing you access to it because of his/her own ignorance. (Again, this is where I'd request to see a gastroparesis specialist, or at least try to go to a research hospital.)
