Gastroscopy results - Gastritis

by nadia, Jan 24, 2003 12:00AM
Well it seems I am making some progress in diagnosing my condition.  After living for over 2 years with moderate to severe epigastric pain, it was diagnosed today as hiatus hernia with no significant esophagitis and mild chronic gastritis.  Well it sure doesn't feel mild to me, but I suppose that is what was presented.

I am on Pariet ( a PPI), which provides minimal relief. Biopsy results haven't come in yet.  I'm almost hoping they find H.Pylori so that it can be treated once and for all.

The report also stated that the pylorus was widely opened, but had no suggestion of biliary reflux.  If anyone knows why the pylorus would be opened this way, please let me know.

If anyone else has chronic pain symptoms with mild gastritis, I would like to hear about it.  Thanks for any input..

I would be interested in know exactly what your symptoms are. I went to see my gastro doc and he has ordered up an endoscopy and colonoscopy.

I have what feels like constant pressure to the left of the sternum. Heartburn happens on occasion or least that's what I think it is. I also have continuous burping.

The doc seemed to think my condition was not that serious. He gave me Protonix to take. The first day this worked pretty good, but after that the symptoms are the same again.

Along with the constant pressure I have yellowish stools that are mushy..."not runny" and are small, sometimes look like shavings. Sorry for being so graphic.

My symptoms are quite varied.  The most prominant pain that I have is a pressure right around the sternum area.  Even when I move positions it hurts. It makes sense to me now because that is where the esophagus meets the stomach.
I was having a deep knawing pain in the abdomen radiating into my back. It would also feel like a burning inside the stomach. I would get occasional heartburn but not what I considered extreme.  I did have alot of burping after meals and early morning.
I also have chest pain and this strange deep intermuscular pain just to the right of my left armpit.
I live with pretty debilitating fatigue and am also having a cardiac assessment next month.  I have something called paroxysmal tachycardia just to add to everything else.
Everything I have read about Hiatus Hernia states that there are usually no symptoms but I would have to disagree with that. I thought it was something really serious because of the intensity of the pain.
Stool colour may have to do with your bile production.  If it continues to stay that color, have your pancreas and liver checked.

It sounds like gallstones when you have a gnawing aching pain radiating through to your back and shoulders.I had to have mine removed,I used to get intense pain for 6hrs at a time, morning and night,it was awful.Eventually morphine was the only thing that killed the pain.I dont know if that is related to my current situation of reflux, indigestion and a sore throat for the past 3 months.I think once you;ve had one gastric problem it can lead to others.Best bet is an endoscopy, scan and barium.

I have had problems with my gallbladder.  I had chronic cholecystitis and had to have it removed.  You are right in that once you have one digestive problems it does lead to others.
