Getting ready for Gallstone Sugery....

I am finally having my gallbladder out on march 31st.  For those who have had this type of surgery is there anything I could do to make it easier?  For example certain foods, etc?  Doctors tell you alot, but I would rather hear it from people who have gone through themselves.  All advice would be appreciated.  This morning woke up sort of sore, don't know why because not eating fatty foods at all.  Is this normal?

Thank you so much for being so kind with your words of encouragement and for answering my concerns.  getting scared because in reality who likes surgery??  But I cannot wait for that day...next Tuesday.  I will take your advice and more than likey stay on the diet I am on.  not only have I lost wight but so much healthier.  My skin looks awesome and I sleep ten times better.  I gave up all dairy on Feb 3rd after having an attack.  Don't miss it..I miss PIZZA!!!!!!  lolol.  but I am sure as my doctor has already told me I will need to take it easy on the eating habits after the surgery.  Like you, the loosing weight is great!

Thank you for saying you will be thinking of me...my family is far away from me...I will have my husband but missing my mom ( I am such a baby) and my kids.  Well they are grown and have there own life.  but it always nice to have them around.  I am staying poistive and KNOW it is going to be totally worth it.  I am having Lapro surgery(keyhole surgery)..and I don't care about the scars, that is nothing compared to the pain!

Talk to you soon.

How are you doing?

I had my gallbladder removed on 1 December 2009, prior to my surgery I experienced gallstone attacks every week and every week they got worse. My surgery went well and I was told that my gallbladder was very ill, luckily tests came back negative for cancers etc. It has now been almost been 4 months and I am almost feeling my old self again. Please be sure not take consume any diary procucts for the first three months after your surgery, apparently that will make you sick, I am still keeping to the no fat, fast foods, diary and meat as I like the way I lost weight. I weighed 118kg and am now 77kg. It is only for the better. Good luck and I shall think of you on 31 March. O and yes it was very sore when I woke up after surgery, I had the open surgery as my hospital did not have the facilities to do the key hole surgery. However, within a week the pain was gone, the first thing you notice is that the pain from your gallbladder is totally gone. So yes, it is so totally worth it. Best of whishes.

Thanks for all your info, and I am so sorry you had to endure so much pain and the not knowing what was really going on.

I had my doubts regarding having my gallbladder taken out...trust me!!!  but I am sure and faith I have made the right decision, living like this is no way to live.  I was already thin and in shape.  I have lost alot of weight and stick the my diet as my life depends on it.  I don't eat red meats anymore, forget about snacks and sugar....no refuge...just bland foods.  Fish, chicken with no skin usually boiled and lots of fruit and veggies.  I talked to him about my concerns and he was upfront about the possibilities of what could go wrong, but the things they could go right outweighed the bad.  If something should not go right, I shall cross that road when I come to it, because living this way like I said is no way to live at all.

but I appreciate hearing your feedback.  All my other tests are prefectly normal...they have run extensive checks on my liver, pancreas, etc.  I am good to go!

redgirl..Thanks for your input as well.....will follow your instructions and thank you for wishing me well.  I shall keep everyone posted as the day gets nearer.

Bless you all.

I had mine removed about five years ago. I would have these attacks that was the worse pain I have ever had in my life. It ook 5 trips to the hospital for them to find gallstones.I was admitted because I had an irregular heart beat and three days later they removed my gallbladder. They had to open me all the way up as my gallbladder was like mush. I felt better the same day. Then a little over a year ago I started having very bad stomach pain. I have had 5 major procedures done all came back normal. I lost over 50lbs in two months and was sick every day for over a year. The Doc said it could be from the Gallbladder surgery. Something you might want to talk to your Doc before the surgery. I am just now starting to feel better> Good Luck and God Bless!

I was having lots of pain and trouble eating back in November of 2003. I had been told that blood tests for gallstomes were negative and that I had IBS. Nothing helped and three months later I was barely able to even drink broth!  I went the ER one night (actually it was my second late night visit in about a week) and the ER doc said he knew it had to be gallstones, regardless of any blood tests and did an ultrasound.  This was three months after I was told I didn't have gallstones but the ultrasound revealed my gall bladder was full of acorn sized gallstones! Ick!  I was schedule for surgery a week later and as soon as I woke up from the surgery I already felt better!  I was able to eat for the first time in over a month!  Stick with soups if you have too much pain with lean foods.  Heck, broth will give you some nutrition if that's all you can stomach until the 31st... good luck and God bless!
