Gilbert's Syndrome

by pwee, Jul 29, 2001 12:00AM
I was recently diagnosed as having Gilbert's Syndrome.  It followed a night of fairly heavy drinking, however my GP tells me the alcohol intake has no link to the illness. Is this correct? (My mother seemed to thhink I was quite yellow again after drinking the other night). Also, this may seem odd, but I have found I have many more bruises on my body than usual. Is there any link?!

excessive drinking will raise your bilirubin levels, with those of us with gilberts it is just more obvious since our bilirubin is already high to begin with. i have been diagnosed with gilberts for ove a year now and ive found that after drinking heavily my eyes and skin will sometimes go quite yellow for a day or two after. my normal bilirubin levels raqnge from 2.2 to 3 but after drinking they have always been from 3.5 to 5.0. hope this helps ya some.
