Girlfriend with Hep B

by 345medhelpFAN, Jan 10, 2006 12:00AM
Hello -

I am a 28 year old male.  I recently had a mini/sports physical with perfect blood work (liver panel, CBC, negative HIV).

My girlfriend of 6 months was born in Korean but has lived in the US her whole life.  She is what her doctor calls a "healthy carrier" of the Hepatitis B virus.

We practice safe sex, but we kiss and do other things, but I can't seem to get clarity from the web as to weather or not that puts me at risk for getting Hepatitis B?  My understanding from her, via her doctor is that we have nothing to be concerned about.

Do you agree?

Thanks

I would direct you to this website with more information on Hepatitis B carriers:
http://liver.stanford.edu/index2.asp?lang=eng&page=hepinasians

It is still possible for carriers to transmit the virus, even if the carrier is still feeling healthy.

I would consider safe sexual practices, as well as a hepatitis B vaccine if you haven't had one already.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

To: to Doctor
Girlfriend says she is not contagious.  I think I will go and get a Hep B vaccine just to be safe.
