Globulin and ALB/GLOB Ratio

My lab results show my Globulin at 1.7 with a normal range of 2.0-3.7 and my ALB/GLO Ratio shows 2.6 with a normal range of 1.0-2.0. What does it mean to have a low Globulin and high ALB/GLOB Ratio?

Hi there!

A value of 1.7 g/dl is slightly low. Low levels of globulins may be seen in low production, renal causes, liver dysfunction etc. Unless a primary care is already suspected, I would suggest getting a repeat test in about 2 weeks. If the value continues to be deranged, I would suggest consulting an internist for a detailed evaluation. After a cause is diagnosed, it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
