H. pylori is a bacteria that is able to live in the harsh environment of the stomach. It is suggested to cause GERD and ulcerations.

H-Pylori is a nasty bacteria.  I had an upper GI done earlier this year and they took several biopsies, found out I had it!  Know this, it DOES cause cancer!  They put you on a triple antibiotic therapy...14 pills a day for 10 days...ugggh!  I still have major stomach probs and had another upper GI about 2 mths ago, more biopsies, but thank God the H-Pylori hadn't come back.  I'm on Zegerid now after trying many different drugs.  Most times it does help with the major acid/nausea.  Anyway, hope this helps.
