HELP!!!

I am a 36 year old women and I had my gallbladder taken out 10 years ago in April of 2001.  I had it surgically removed, that is they opened my abdomen and took it that way.  I started having pain back in 2009 around November and December.  Just this last month, I have experienced excruitating pain where my gallbladder had been.  I went to the emergerncy room this past month, February, and they ran an MRI and CAT scans on me.  The doctor said everything was fine.  While in the emergency room, I started throwing up and having severve diarreah and could not stop.  They gave me medicine to stop the pain and throwing up.  I still can not eat too much of anything because it hurts to much.  It feels like my gallbadder is still there and I know it isn't.  My questions are, why does it keep hurting and what is the reason I can not eat.  I have to take Ibiprohen to sleep at night sometimes and sometimes twice in the day time for the pain to go away.  My bowel movement is out of wack.  I'm constipated some days, then have diarreah on others..  Please, please help me.  I do not know what to do.  It interfers with my life and I am an active person.

Hi jenny06xx,

I would like to ask how long did it took your pancreas to heal from having pancreatitis before the doctors removed your gallbladder? My Mom is in the hospital right now about more than a month already because she have pancreatitis.

Thanks,
Dan

the nhs has its ups and downs ie;
in an emergency you will get treated in hospital free and not have to worry about money and insurance etc .......but there can be a long wait for a bed emergency or not!!!
all prescription meds are free to everyone even people with private healthcare and it saves me alot of money especially with repeats!!
doctors appointments have at least 2 weeks waiting time.........but you can go in at 8 30 am for walk in surgery and wait till about 12-1 to get seen but nothing is discussed in detail its a 5 min surgery lol
routine ops get canceled way too much coz of lack of beds etc......
nurses are underpaid and well overworked so alot are not very sympathetic or even nice ..........
tests are just not done unless your half dying and they can see it (too much cost involved)
you cannot request a specific test u have what your offered and thats it if that test ie blood test is fine your sent home time an time again with wind or constipation lol
the hospitals over here are soooooo full and busy nothing seems to run smoothly and no one seems bothered with how much pain you are in
do i need to go on lol
anyway im still in pain and there seems there is nothing i can do until my gastro appointment comes in 6 months......i know one thing for definate triggers severe pain for me and thats alcohol so i havent drunk for 5 weeks but am going to have a bottle of wine tonight to see how i get on !! if i end up in hospital maybee they will take me seriously and do some proper tests if not ill report back tommorow

Ya know what Jenny, my heart goes out to you AND the other thing is we have members on site that try to convince people that the health care in the UK is good and they never had a problem etc. Then there is another woman who is a Conservative and was from the UK and is now an American citizen and she warns us of how awful the Health care is over in the UK because I am sure you know how upset many of us are - here in the USA with this new Health Care that this Administration is trying to push down our throats. I know others that have told me the waiting can be long in the UK when you want to see a doctor and when you are suffering in pain of course every minute while you wait is agony.

The fact that your doctor told you you were lying just because it wasn't in the notes that you had Pancreatitus that means you don't have it,,,that is really horrible!  I guess he doesn't think it was the doctor who could have made the "major mistake" of not putting it in your notes..

Well hearing stories such as yours - the truth about Socialized Medicine ( which is what ours will be though they try to sugar coat it) makes me really wonder why these others on this forum from the UK argue with that lady who was originally from the UK and tell her she is wrong in saying their are long waits and the problems with the system.

I am a mystery to top Specialists and that is not a fun place to be, so I don't have answers for my own health problem, but the only good thing is that presently I can see any doc I want at any time with the coverage I have right now, but I have exhausted all avenues and instead of sinking their teeth into my case as I know I would if I were a doctor just due to the mystery, which who knows could maybe unlock answers for others, nope they push me aside and just tell me they don't know what to do with me.  So even if I were to say you should try to come to the USA and get in to see a doctor, I actually don't have any faith in any of them right now either. Its a one size fits all and if you case is a rarity you are on your own. Or at least that has been my experience. I have thought of going to California for consults but I would most likely be wasting my time and money...The only good thing at the moment at least is that I am not in any pain. I'm sorry that you are though. I guess I have that to be thankful for.

For you to have to wait until something is seriously wrong gets me so mad that things like this are happening to people. And like I said, those that are liberals on this site from the UK and they know that these things take place but because they like our President they say their is nothing wrong if our system becomes like the UK as if its so wonderful. Why people would not be truthful about that is just crazy.

I appreciate your honestly in expressing what your health care system is like..
Please post with updates and I hope you do get to see a doctor before something serious happens. This is really a shame.

Good luck,
MO

i would love to push to get seen !
it just wont happen im in the uk and as i dont have any private health care or insurance  (cant afford it ) i have to through the nhs like most people and that means no tests to expensive they just wont send you until something goes seriously wrong !!
i know that from experience when i had gallstones and pancreatitis i was sent home from hospital 6 times with constipation, colic, gastritis, ulcer, etc never did they do any tests till the last time and then i was told i would die if i didnt have my gallbladder out !!! great.
eveytime i go  to the doctors he looks at me like im nurotic im 24 and in pain constantly and if i mention a test he says no you dont need that wait for the gastro appointment and then i feel stupid and avoid going back as much as i can.
i wish i could afford to pay for a private abdo scan or something but thats just not an option so in my case ill have to either wait for the gastro appointment or wait till something goes seriously wrong ...........not very fair.

Geesh, you've had pancreatitus before and they didn't check you for it this time. Amazing. And yet they tell us to steer clear of forums.

I have had some of the same issues but a little worse, I have been told it may be sphincter of oddi dysfunction. I am being tested soon. It sounds like you may want to be tested too the test is ERCP with manometry. Talk to your doctor.

I would push to get seen Jenny. And I might want to see another doctor - a specialist if you aren't already seeing one.
I seems to me that your doctor is rather cavalier about a possible diagnosis of "gastritis".
That is nothing like a little indigestion and it should definitely be looked into. If you do have gastritis something is causing it - alcohol use, anemia, bacteria, virus, stress etc.
I would not suffer for 6 months under any circumstances. If there is something going on it should be diagnosed and addressed before further damage may occur.
Get seen Jenny. Sometimes you have to push really hard.
I wish you luck Jenny.

Was pancreatitis ever mentioned?

Acute pancreatitis signs and symptoms include:

    * Upper abdominal pain
    * Abdominal pain that radiates to your back
    * Abdominal pain that feels worse after eating
    * Abdominal pain that's somewhat relieved by leaning forward or curling into a ball
    * Nausea
    * Vomiting
    * Tenderness when touching the abdomen

Chronic pancreatitis signs and symptoms include:

    * Upper abdominal pain
    * Indigestion
    * Losing weight without trying
    * Oily, smelly stools (steatorrhea)

When to see a doctor
Make an appointment with your doctor if you have persistent abdominal pain. Seek immediate medical help if your abdominal pain is so severe that you can't sit still or find a position that makes you more comfortable.

My mother has pain when she eats and sometimes even when she has not had anything to eat. But they tell her its diverticulitus. She at one time had her appendix rupture, this pain that she gets she says is as bad as that on some of the days. The doctors are no help at all. Today she has nausea too. it subsided later in the day, but it seems like no one can help her. She also goes from diareaha(sp) to constipation too.

I don't have any answers for you but just wanted you to know she goes thru what sounds like the same thing.

I hope you feel better soon.
